Join Us
We are always interested in discussing potential opportunities with curious and motivated candidates at all levels. Research in the Anderson Lab spans from molecular and evolutionary genetics to community ecology, which means that we have a collection of diversely skilled researchers. We also value diversity in background, cultures, and life experiences. Therefore, historically disadvantaged groups, including but not limited to: women, racial and ethnic minorities, people with physical or mental disabilities, and members of LGBTQIA+ community, are especially welcome to explore the possibility of building their scientific career with us. Every member in our group upholds the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Collectively, we strive towards creating and maintaining a fun and engaging work environment for everyone.
Please reach out to Dr. Matt Anderson (anderson.3196@osu.edu) after going through the information presented below.
Prospective Postdocs
We may have funding to support postdocs from time to time. Individuals who are completing or already hold a PhD in any of the diverse biological disciplines, including genetics and genomics, evolutionary biology, molecular biology, cell biology, microbiology, and bioinformatics, are encouraged to apply and discuss their fit with the lab. We are also willing to work with prospective candidates towards preparing various fellowship applications to secure external funding.
Please include your CV (including information for 2-3 referees) and a brief summary of your expertise, interests, and career goals in your first email. We do not discriminate between candidates that are seeking an academic vs. non-academic career, and are happy to help individuals realize their career goals.
Prospective PhD students
Our lab has a primary affiliation in the Laboratory of Genetics, which is a combined program of the Department of Medical Genetics in the School of Medicine and Public Health (our home) and the Department of Genetics in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. As a result, we can accept rotation students from the following PhD programs:
- Genetics PhD Program (Genetics overview)
- Microbiology Doctoral Training Program (MDTP overview)
- Cell and Molecular Biology Program (CMB overview)
- Cell and Molecular Pathology Program (CMP overview)
Prospective Research Technicians
From time to time, we may have opening(s) for research technician/lab manager positions in the lab. Candidates for these positions typically come in with a Bachelors degree in sciences and help coordinate the overall functioning of the lab. Please check this space for any open positions at this level, or reach out if you have a longer time frame in mind.
Prospective Undergraduate students
We typically have research opportunities for undergrads during the summer or semesters, where they can work alongside grad students or postdocs. In order for us to plan things well, please reach out at least a month or two before your desired start date. If you want, your research experience in the lab can contribute towards college credit, and whenever possible, we will try to accommodate your lecture schedule in terms of the lab work.
